Next Meeting: February 15, 2012
Brandon Dutcher, Vice President for policy at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs
We're often told that Oklahoma is a "national leader" in what's called "early childhood education," chiefly because Oklahoma ranks first in the nation for having the highest percentage of 4-year-olds in its state-funded preschool program. But Brandon has a different perspective: he says Oklahoma is leading the nation, but we're leading the nation in the wrong direction. He argues that the encroaching nanny state-and the tax burden required to sustain it is inimical to the American tradition. Rather than leading the nation in providing what the Heritage Foundation calls "an expensive and unnecessary middle-class subsidy," Oklahoma should start leading the nation in the right direction: toward economic and educational freedom. Getting rid of the state income tax would be a good place to start.
Congratulations to Charlie Potts and Ken Bartlett for their re-election as Chairman and Vice Chairman. Also to County Commission Ray Vaughn, Paul Mathews and Ted Withrow for their elections to the post of CRC Board Members. And a big hoorah to Linda Huggard on being re-elected to Treasurer.
NOTE: New meeting place - Boulevard Cafeteria located at NW 11th Street and Dewey Avenue (northwest of Classen Circle).
Reminder - Attandance is "members only." Guests are welcomed but must be accompanied by a member or prepared to join the Caucuss.
